  • Started learning at the tender age of 3 from her maternal aunt & Guru, Vainika Smt. Padmavathy Ananthagopalan. Also had the rare opportunity of training under Veena wizard Dr. S Balachander. Deeply influenced by her maternal uncle, violinist Lalgudi G Jayaraman 
  • Has double Masters in English Literature & Music and a Ph.D from Mysore University on ‘Analytical Study of Different Banis & Playing Techniques of the Saraswathi Veena’ 
  • A sixth generation musician who has been performing since the age of 15, captivating audiences around the world for 30 years now 
  • One of the youngest vainikas to receive the A-TOP grade from All India Radio 
  • Creator & coordinator of the Indian National Orchestra which showcases the best of music talent in the country 
  • Five time recipient of The Music Academy, Chennai’s ‘Award for Veena’, awarded ‘Kalaimamani’ by the Government of Tamil Nadu, ‘Veena Naada Mani’, ‘Sangeetha Choodamani’ 
  • Has performed all over India & around the globe at the UN & Woodstock in US & many prestigious venues. Has shared the stage with great artists including her gurus, tabla maestro Ustad Zakir Hussain & her violinist husband, R. Kumaresh of the famous Ganesh-Kumaresh duo 
  • Her music is a true blend of the traditional & the innovative in terms of content, technique, virtuosity & expression. Her veena playing is characterised by an intuitive understanding of the scope of the Veena, poise & grace in presentation & soulfulness of rendition
