Faiyaz Wasifuddin Dagar


  • An Indian classical singer of the dhrupad genre
  • Was awarded the Padma Shri in 2010 
  • Son of the late Ustad Nasir Faiyazuddin Dagar, and nephew of the late Ustad N Zahiruddin Dagar, the well-known junior Dagar brothers and therefore a descendant of the legendary Haridas Dagar, Tansen’s teacher 
  • Between 1989 and 1994, he was groomed by his uncle, Ustad Zahiruddin Dagar, with whom he used to sing jugalbandis
  • Represents the 20th generation of dedicated dagarvani dhrupad singers in the Dagar family
  • First major recordings were in Switzerland, India and Japan in 1992 
  • Toured North America performing dhrupad solo since 2000 
  • Performed for the UNESCO in France, and also toured the Netherlands, Belgium, Switzerland, Hungary in 1998, in America for the United Nations Peace Summit, and the World Festival of Sacred Music of the Dalai Lama in 2001
