Abhishek Raghuram - 06 Feb 2020
At Bangalore, I recently got to coordinate a recent circuit by Vidwan Abhishek Raghuram, one of the most accomplished Carnatic vocalists among the younger generation.

Vidwan Abhishek Raghuram conducted two programmes on 06 Feb 20 viz. at Parikrma School, Jayanagar during the forenoon and at The Valley School, Kanakapura Road during the post lunch session. He was ably accompanied by Vidushi Sornalata on the Violin and Vidwan K Sai Giridhar on the Mridangam.
Vidwan Abhishek started by explaining the genesis of music from the sounds of the nature and went on to identify the basic ‘swaras’ in the nursery rhyme ‘Twinkle Twinkle Little star’. He replaced the English lyrics with Indian lyrics and accent progressively to arrive at a rendering of the rhyme in pure Carnatic style.
Coming to the ‘laya’ aspect of music, he illustrated the same as an enabler of harmony by initially singing to the rhythmic clapping of children and then in step with the strains of Violin and the beats of Mrudangam.
Subsequently, he went on to sing a couple of light compositions in the traditional Carnatic style to demonstrate the full impact of the divine music.
There was a lively Q & A session at the end where questions pertaining to a wide variety of topics like balancing music and school education, importance of music in life etc were answered with great insight by the young maestro.
Of course, children lapped it all up with great joy and enthusiasm(almost 250-300 in each of the two schools).
With such young masters explaining the art and science of music to young minds, we are sure that the seeds planted will go a long way to yield rich crop of connoisseurs and budding artists in the years to come.
